Range Rover 1967 to 2017
Ten Moments in Time
1967
Bold, visionary and innovative things are happening at Rover, and the first Engineering Prototype of the 100in Station Wagon is taking shape. It leads directly to what would become known as the Range Rover.
1970
The Range Rover is launched to the world – in Cornwall.
1981
The In Vogue appears and is the first conscious attempt to take the Range Rover upmarket. It is followed quickly by the four-door, which the market had been eagerly awaiting for at least ten years.
1990
The CSK is introduced, and tests the market for a more sporty and even more luxurious Range Rover.
1994
The second generation Range Rover is launched – and is an immediate sales success, although its reputation becomes tarnished as gremlins undermine reliability.
2002
The third generation L322 is launched, delivering BMW’S vision of what a fast, luxurious off-roader should be. A pity they had sold the company to Ford by then.
2005
The Range Rover Sport hits the street to great acclaim, arguably the realisation of what had begun in 1990 with the Range Rover CSK.
2010
JLR’S vision for a Range Rover family finally takes shape, with the launch of the Evoque. It is a runaway sales success across the world.
2012
The fourth generation L405 appears, followed quickly by the new L494 Sport. They are undeniably the most accomplished Range Rovers yet.
2017
The new L560 Velar is introduced, completing a four-strong Range Rover family that would astonish Spen King and David Bache.
