THE AUSTERE and distinctive version of the Series Land Rover, built for the armed forces. In 1972 the military Series III got the same mechanical upgrades as the civilian model, including a five-bearing petrol engine and improved gearbox with synchromesh on all forward gears, as well as an alternator to replace the old dynamo. Today, Lightweights are in high demand with enthusiasts, so expect good ones to fetch serious money. BUYER’S TIP: Always in demand and rising in value.
