Land Rover Monthly

Thank you, Kelmarsh

-

My wife and I attended Kelmarsh 2018 and were extremely lucky to purchase a five-day camping pass on Black Friday. We arrived on the Wednesday, set up our tent and started our Land Rover weekend. As we were camping for five nights, we set up our ground tent instead of the roof tent that we had on the trailer.

On the Friday evening, after midnight I heard rattling sounds and a muffled voice. I looked out of the window of my tent and my trailer roof tent was gone. I dashed out but could not see it, so I ran and fetched security. Meanwhile my wife walked up and down the rows of campers and found the tent on the ground between two campers, carefully positioned.

Security blocked all traffic from leaving the site and everyone was on alert. I would like to take this opportunity in commending the security personnel who were very helpful and supportive.

I would also like to thank the camper next to ours who was a Northants Raynet volunteer. He organised a family member to bring a drill to me so that I could bolt the tent directly onto the roof of the trailer.

A final thanks goes to another generous camper who gave us a case of beer as they were leaving.

This all goes to show that Land Rover owners are a very helpful bunch. Despite all of this, we are looking forward to Kelmarsh 2019. Ian (full name and address supplied)

Sadly all Land Rover events seem to attract would-be thieves, despite the best efforts of the organisers. My solution to the problem is to set up a network of volunteers to patrol the showground after dark (see page 3). Any suggestions from readers are very welcome – Ed.
