Land Rover Monthly

Stop Gerry-bashing!

-

I DO enjoy reading Land Rover Monthly and in the letters section there is always something informing or of interest. However, there is not a month that goes by without some criticism of Gerry Mcgovern, so let me try and give some balance to these arguments.

Firstly, beauty is in the eye of the beholder; practicality and ergonomics can be felt, while performance can be measured.

The nostalgic babble that all things old are good is beyond me and this is coming from someone whose first Land Rover in the 1960s was a Series IIA, followed by a Series III. I then rebuilt a Series I (regret selling it) then came a 90 County, followed by a Freelander. At the time did I get some stick for buying the Freelander, but it turned out to be an excellent vehicle.

I have also had all the major German brands, but three years go I dug deep and brought a new Range Rover Sport – and I love it!

Gerry Mcgovern and his team have to build vehicles that sell, it’s that simple, and what they build today is tomorrow’s nostalgia.

You don’t need me to tell you the history of Land Rover: suffice to say that successive owners have starved the business of investment at critical times of its development, and despite all this it has been successful just by surviving in the UK.

It’s good to criticise but please let’s do it in a practical, constructive manner supporting the brand we all love. I have always found Land Rover lovers to be reasonable and fair-minded people; we are better than all this name-calling. John Gospage Via email
