Land Rover Monthly

WELCOME

- Gary Pusey, LRM Classics Editor

to LRM Classics. Many of you contacted us to say how much you liked the first edition last month, including Chris from Monmouth who enjoyed the articles on the Stage 1 88s and the Ninety Gunship, and thought the October issue was ‘ the perfect balance between new and classic, technical and ‘how-to’ articles, and travel and adventure’. Thank you, Chris! We’ll try to maintain that perfect balance as LRM Classics develops over the coming months.

This month we have two features for you. The first tells an inspiring story of a humble Series I that played a crucial part in one of Africa’s pioneering wildlife conservation projects, and how it has been brought back to life and hopes once again to help combat the threats to the Continent’s wild animals.

Our second story is much closer to home. Berkshire, to be precise! Terry O’sullivan’s Discovery 1 has survived against all the odds and has more lives than the proverbial cat. Last year, Terry pulled it out of the field it had been parked in for the past few years, having narrowly escaped its last close shave with the scrapman. It already had 325,000 miles on the clock and sitting in grass and weeds up to its waist could well have been the final straw. But Terry is one very determined owner, and the D1 has been put back on the road after a protracted and very sympathetic renovation. And Terry now has his sights set on passing half a million miles with it.

Terry is also a member of the Project Jay Preservation Group, a club for owners and fans of the prototype, press launch and early production Discovery 1s, which is why this month’s featured club is the PJPG.
