Winter warmer

I really enjoyed your excellent article on SOL 1, the Lord Mayor of Solihull’s Range Rover, which brought back memories of a snowy winter in the early 1990s when my wife Patricia (shown in this photo of Sol 2) was a courier for Solihull MBC and known as ‘Postie Pat’. She was also known to drive our Series III station wagon, and so was the obvious choice to deliver meals-on-wheels to outlying elderly clients where the usual delivery vans could not get down the lanes. This picture shows the Union flag pennant in place, but that was just for the photo opportunity. Pat did not drive with it fitted.

Gary replies: I’m glad you enjoyed the article on the mayoral limo, Tom, and thank you for the wonderful photo of Patricia driving it. That’s the first photo I’ve seen of the vehicle carrying SOL 2, so I was delighted to receive it. I wonder what the elderly residents of Solihull thought when their lunch was delivered in the limo?
