fugitive tamworths

-

Probably the best known Tamworth pigs were a pair who hit the headlines in January 1998. They escaped while being unloaded from a lorry at an abattoir in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. The two evaded capture for a week, generating huge public interest. Their escape led the five-month-old pigs to be labelled the Tamworth Two, with the names Butch and Sundance. When they were finally recaptured, they were bought from their owner by a national newspaper. The brother and sister pigs lived out the rest of their lives at the Rare Breeds Centre in Kent. Butch died aged 13 in 2010, followed by her brother in 2011.
