TEXTURED BAUBLES

-

Worn-out and mismatched baubles can easily be covered with scraps of fabric to create a textured set of decorations, which can be added to year after year.

Firstly, the wire and cap are carefully removed from the bauble by pinching and gently sliding them out.

Small scraps of cut, ripped and frayed fabric are then fixed to the bauble with strong glue, such as a tacky adhesive. Overlapping the fabric creates a textured effect.

Once the bauble is fully covered, a circle of contrasting fabric is cut to cap the top of the bauble. The edge of the circle can be given a decorative touch with pinking shears. A smaller hole is cut in the middle of the circle so that it fits snugly over the neck of the bauble. Once in place, the wire and cap are replaced and a thin length of fabric or ribbon threaded through to hang the decoration.

For baubles without a wire and cap, a simple ring can be attached by slipping it over one of the pieces of fabric as it is glued into place.
