Satin stitch

Come up at A and take the needle down at B. Come up again at C and repeat.

Step 1: The space to be filled on the gloves is measured and a design drawn on a piece of paper to fill the space. Time is taken to create a combination of lines and shapes that can be recreated as a stitched motif. This design can be used as a template and traced onto two pieces of water-soluble embroidery fleece. Step 2: A piece of fleece is pinned to each glove, with care taken not to pin through both layers of the wool. Using embroidery thread, the design is sewn using simple running stitches, such as backstitch. Satin stitch is used for larger areas of the design, such as petals and leaves. Placing a piece of cardboard inside the glove can prevent sewing through both layers, but should not be so large as to stretch the fabric out of shape. Once finished, the ends of the thread are secured and cut, and excess fleece carefully trimmed off. The gloves are gently washed to dissolve the remaining fleece and air-dried flat to restore their shape.
