MAKING THE FIRE
First, a suitable area is chosen and cleared, ensuring there is no overhanging vegetation. A barrier of small rocks should enclose the space and a water supply placed at hand. A criss-cross or ‘upside down’ fire is best for heating charcoal, as it creates a good bed of embers. Larger logs are laid at the bottom, with the kindling on top, placing the layers across one another before lighting. Once extinguished, any ash and debris should be cleared away.
