Who are your heroes?
UNSUNG heroes from across the Staffordshire Moorlands are to be honoured for their efforts
Courageous children, carers and charity fundraisers are just some of the people set to be recognised by a new community awards for the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The Leek Post and Times and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council have joined forces to launch Moorlands Heroes, and we’re calling on our readers to put forward people from within their community.
Each week we will be telling the stories of our nominees, with shortlisted groups and individuals invited to a glittering awards evening at The Alton Towers Resort in January 2019.
Councillor Sybil Ralphs, the leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, said: “Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has been keen to launch a community awards scheme for some time now, to reward people who go the extra mile to help others.
“There are some extraordinary people living in our area and we are aware their selflessness can go unnoticed or unrecognised. We want to celebrate their stories and let them know that the Moorlands would be a poorer place without them, as would the lives of those they help.” The categories are: Child or Teenager of Courage, Carer of the Year, Fund-raiser of the Year, Bright Star of the Year, Adult Achiever of the Year and Community or Voluntary Group of the Year. There will also be a special recognition award.
Post & Times editor-in-chief Martin Tideswell said: “I am delighted we are partnering with Staffordshire Moorlands District Council to launch the Moorlands Awards.
“At its heart, journalism is about people. We know that across our patch there are individuals and groups who do extraordinary, merit-worthy things day-in, day-out. They are the glue that binds our communities together and we want to
showcase what they do and reward them for their endeavours.
“As with any such awards, we are reliant on people taking the time to nominate others and so I would urge anyone who knows a special person or group to put their names forward for consideration. We look forward to telling some wonderful, heart-warming stories.”
Readers who want to make a nomination for the Moorlands Heroes Awards should email leslie.jackson@ reachplc.com or jennifer.amphlett@ reachplc.com with ‘Moorlands Heroes’ in the subject box.
They should include their name and contact telephone number, plus the details of the person they would like to put forward.
