Bennett and Keates keep Old Boys at the top

LEEK CSOB continue to fly the flag for the Moorlands at the top of the Staffs County Senior League Premier Division. The Old Boys are still unbeaten nine games into the new season and chalked up their seventh win with a 2-0 success at Alsager Town at the weekend. Drew Bennett and Mike Keates were their scorers. Silverdale Athletic had a convicing 6-1 home win over Newcastle Town to remain in second place, while Tunstall Town are just a point behind the leaders following their 6-0 win at bottom club Florence. Matt Haddrell netted a hat-trick for Tunstall, with Tim Barrass, Ben Lees and Ben Matthews also on the scoresheet. Foley Meir made another good signing in the week when they welcomed Simon Bell, a Uefa B coach, to the management team. On the field, it was another three points for the Meirbased club with a 5-3 victory over Redgate Clayton. Mark Grice netted two of the goals, with Luke Lewis, Sam Arnold and Ryan Pickup also finding the back of the net. Jack Finney (2) and Jack Daniels replied for Redgate. Last season’s champions Wolstanton United were beaten 2-1 at Ashbourne, but Cheadle Town chalked up their third win of the season at home to Walsall Phoenix, beating the south Staffs side 4-2. Hanley Town lost 3-1 at Brereton Social. Audley continue to lead the way at the top of Division One following a 6-1 win at Whittingto­n, while Leek CSOB Reserves are second following their 6-0 home win over Walsall Phoenix, thanks to goals from Reece Owen (2), Mitch Brown, Sam Faulkner and Danny Forrester. No such luck for their close rivals Ball Haye Green however, as they went down 4-1 at home to Milton United, while Staffordsh­ire Moorlands were beaten 3-2 at Market Drayton Tigers. In Division Two, Cheadle Town Reserves chalked up a 2-0 win at Audley Reserves
