It’s all for a muddy good cause!

A LEEK woman has raised more than £1,000 for charity after taking part in a mud run.

Jeanette Barlow, took part in the ‘Race for Life Pretty Muddy’ run on Sunday, September 16 at Central Forest Park in Hanley.

Her efforts have now raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The event is a 5k muddy obstacle course, whereby participants tackle a variety of obstacles including an A-frame and a mud pit.

Jeanette, 49, who has worked for Leek-based Falco for the last 16 years, completed the run in 50 minutes.

She said: “I had cancer 15 years ago and now my sister has got it so I wanted to support the charity and raise much needed funds.

“I had a great time running the Cancer Research Mud Run.

“It was not to just raise much needed funds to help this very important charity, but also, to make people aware that cancer should not be a taboo word.

“The more that people talk about it, the more we can recognise symptoms, the more we can stop people dying from this nasty disease. My husband and daughter went along with me and also some of my work colleagues were at the event to support me. “There were several obstacles along the course and plenty of mud. They were also firing hoses at you at different stages of the course.

“I would also like to thank everyone who sponsored me, especially my boss, Jeremy Green, who has madly agreed to double all the sponsorship that I raise.”
