Kids tell visiting MP: We love our school dinners!
A LEEK school received a visit from the district’s Member of Parliament last Thursday.
Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley visited St Edward’s Church of England Academy where she met the senior prefect leadership team of the head boy and head girl and their deputies.
A discussion was then held with the principal, Tom Hutchinson and academy chair and vice chair of Governors, Cynthia Simmonds and Chris Goodwin.
Discussion included Mrs Bradley’s support and assistance in the academy trying to secure funding for new more efficient heating systems.
Mr Hutchinson explained the current issues facing the academy and how results have improved dramatically over the past two years for all pupils.
Further discussion was held over community projects that St Edward’s pupils are undertaking to place the academy at the centre of its community and to truly live out its ‘Respect’ ethos and values.
These projects include developing the academy grounds so that greater community linkage can be made forging further links with the RAF cadets, Leek Grow project and Mothers Union.
Mrs Bradley then joined the senior prefects on a brief tour of the school. They described the new developments in the academy which are aiding their learning and inspiring them for the future. They also demonstrated the newly refurbished kitchens and informed the MP that they love the school dinner menu and that the food is tasty.
Mr Hutchinson said: “It was a privilege to have our local MP and Secretary of State for Northern Ireland visit us, we were very pleased that she had a chance to meet with our pupils and to give her the chance to find out about all the exciting projects and developments at the academy.”
