Stags in party mood after crushing win over Breaks

-

THERE was no shortage of goals again this week in the LEEK AND DISTRICT sunday LEAGUE with 37 being scored.

Buxton Stags returned to the top of the table after beating Breaks Athletic 13-0.

Pete Richardson was first on the score sheet, with further singles coming from Andy Jackson, Dan Gilbride and Jack Gregory and Rick Carr netted a brace to make it 6-0 at the interval.

Joe Burgess helped himself to a hat-trick, Richardson added two more for his hattrick with Callum Burns and Connor Johnson completing the rout.

Waterhouses entertained last season’s champions Golden Lion in a very close and exciting game.

It was stalemate for the first quarter, but Jermaine Leveridge opened for Lion in the 24th minute.

Waterhouses responded with Ash Cunningham levelling on the half-hour mark but Lee Anderson put Lion back into the lead five minutes before the break.

Jake Binns levelled again two minutes from the restart, but Sam Horton snatched the winner for Lion in the 72nd minute.

Breaks FC travelled to Back Lane, Congleton to meet Vale Hoppers.

Breaks were the better side in what was a scrappy first half, but it was Hoppers who took the lead five minutes from the interval through Ben Ambage, who picked up from a good move down the left to slot home under the keeper.

Hoppers doubled their lead on the hour through another well worked move down the left, this time Zib Nyatito was the scorer. Five minutes later, Breaks keeper Lee White saved a penalty, but Jordan Morris tapped in from close range in the 80th minute and Matt Ben Accom had the final say with three minutes remaining as Hoppers ran out 4-0 winners.

Dyers Arms got their second win of the season, firing nine past AFC Wellington without reply.

Declan Heath opened after five minutes and doubled up in the 20th minute. Dom Grindey made it three on the stroke of half-time.

After the break, Liam Davies (50 and 68) hit a brace and Sam Potts (60) and Kieran Millward (65) scored singles.

Davies (68) and Grindey (70) doubled their tally and Heath (88) completed his hat-trick. Jack Day and Jack Stubbs came close for Wellington, but it wasn’t their day.

Bulls Head got their first win, beating Breaks United 5-1.

■ ANCHOR Athletic have made a cracking start to their season in the COORS LEAGUE Division Two.

The Teanford-based side were known as Charlie Bassett’s last season and played in the City Traders League, but opted for a change of name and direction.

And the new club haven’t looked back after clinching four straight wins. The latest came at home to AFC Furlong, although the visitors did give them a run for their money.

Mark Ellerton netted twice for Furlong but two from Luke Kosciekowski and one apiece from Sam Golden and Christos Georgiou gave Anchor a 4-2 win.
