Wilson ton not enough as Ashcombe are held

-

LONGTON skipper Ed Jones rode to his side’s rescue at home against

ASHCOMBE PARK.

Longton were teetering on 33-6 as they replied to the visitors’ 2015 declared.

But Jones played a captain’s innings to score an unbeaten 100 and guide Longton to 171-8 at the close.

He hit 13 fours and four sixes in his 95-ball knock and put on 130 for the seventh wicket with Simon Elwell (38). Nathan Ball and Josh Johnson took a couple of wickets apiece for Ashcombe Park.

Adam Wilson had earlier made a superb ton of his own – 127 not out – in Ashcombe Park’s innings, while Elwell claimed a couple of scalps.

Rain ruined the match between

CHECKLEY and Blythe at Four Trees.

Chris Plant’s 55 not out underpinned Blythe’s 113-7 declared from 46 overs. Richard Williams and Richard Cooper claimed 3-51 and 2-16 respectively.

Checkley posted 75-4 in reply before the weather closed in. Nick Hunt top-scored with 28.

Play was even more limited in the encounter between Stone SP and LEEK.

Stone SP had batted watchfully in the 28 overs possible and were 85-2 when the action was called off.

Ben Motley was nicely set on 28 not out, with Jonty Barnes keeping him company on 22.

Joshua Hudson took both of the wickets to fall, aided by catches from Warwickshire wicketkeeper Alex Mellor who was making a return to the club.
