Division One

CONGRATULATIONS to CHEADLE and Moddershall & Oulton who both secured the points they required to confirm promotion to the NSSCL Premier Division at the weekend.

In truth, it was always likely that the duo would seal the deal because they only required two and three points respectively.

And there was double delight for Cheadle as they were crowned champions to seal their return to the top table of local cricket.

They were last there in 2012 – and Saturday saw a return to the Moorlands club for former Derbyshire all-rounder Garry Park.

Park played for the club in their top-flight relegation season when they were deducted points because he had been featuring in other leagues. At the time that was against league rules.

Park certainly had a memorable comeback as he captured 6-29 to instigate Weston’s downfall from 70-1 to 129 all out.

James Sellers also chipped in with 3-52, while James Rowland (45) and Zia Ur Rehman (35) made the most progress with the bat.

Cheadle batted for 10.4 overs in reply before the weather arrived and they reached 703. Matthew Sellers top-scored with 30, and there were a couple of wickets for Philip Marsh.

Moddershall & Oulton finished in second place after seeing their home game against Knypersley last only 28 overs.

There was one positive result in the division as CAVERSWALL rounded off their season with a home victory over Little Stoke.

Caverswall put themselves in the driving seat after posting 173 all out, in which Nazakat Ali top-scored with 36. Troy Taylor and Shane Mcnamara weighed in with 29 and 26 respectively.

Little Stoke trio Sabah Ghaus (4-60), Spencer Byatt (3-24) and James Ecclestone (3-81) did the damage with the ball. Little Stoke disappointed with the bat in reply, however, as they were bundled out for 93.

Dave Ecclestone struck 41, but Ali’s 3-12, plus two wickets apiece from Ash Kent, Thomas Caton and Jake Edge, proved to be decisive.

?? ?? Garry Park returned to Cheadle and picked up six wickets as the club celebrated the Division One title and promotion.
