Crew filmed around Leek as part of Salvage Hunt show
A LEEK businesswoman is to feature on a television programme tonight.
Gilder Ruth Tappin runs a shop and workshop in the Compton area of the town.
She is also the gilder for the television show Salvage Hunt: The Restorers on Quest TV.
The third series of the programme started on July 1. The second episode is scheduled at 9pm tonight, July 8, and will see Ruth restoring a very expensive giltwood console table.
Ruth, who has been in the town for 20 years, said: “I have been in all three series of the programme as the gilder.
“Unlike another TV show, The Repair Shop, which is filmed in a barn in Kent, Salvage Hunt The Restorers is filmed at people’s workshops, so the film crew come to Leek.
“When we hand back the items to people that have been restored, the filming is done in Conway in Wales.
“In the previous seasons they have shown the front of my shop on Compton, but this time the crew went round Leek filming so hopefully the show will include images of the town too.
“I hope that the programme helps to promote the town and encourages people to visit it as the show goes world wide.
“Many people come from London to bring me their damaged items and then stay in the town for a couple of days. I like to promote the town so I tell them where to go for places of interest and events which include the antique market and a walk on the Roaches.
“Watching the show can make me feel nervous as we don’t see it until it goes out.
“Leek is a lovely town to live in and for my business. I work for both the trade and private individuals. I am very busy and have been very fortunate during the coronavirus. I think that during the lockdown period many items must have got damaged.”
