A HEALTH conscious Moorlands couple have added a bright pink rainbow burger to their autumnal menu.

Wild and Wild launched their seasonal menu on October 2, which is entirely plant based packed with bright vegan dishes.

The most popular order – due to its beautiful pink colour – is the rainbow barbecue blackbean burger, the bun for which is baked down the road in Leek, by artisan bakery Holy Bread – a business which launched during lockdown.

April Wild, who co-owns the cafe with her husband Chris, said: “We always like to keep it seasonal at Wild and Wild, and after lockdown we felt like we needed a fresh menu for a fresh start! We wanted it to be really seasonal produce working with local suppliers.

“Holy Bread, which launched in lockdown in Leek, approached us about their vegan bread and now we use their pink beetroot buns in our rainbow burger. It inspired us to go even more wild with the menu.”

The couple are passionate about healthy food, and getting people eating more fruit and vegetables.

April, aged 30, from Biddulph, added: “It’s always been so important for us to have a healthy menu. It still is feel good food but we want to educate people on eating more plant based foods to up peoples’ fruit and veg intake.

“90 per cent of our customers are meat eaters - we are able to show them they can still have their bacon bap, or their burger, but it’s cruelty free and tastes amazing.

“People love photogenic food, and love to take pictures of their meals in front of our wall mural. I think that’s why the burger has gone down so well!”

April and Chris are dedicated to making delicious plant based food more accessible for the community.

Chris added: “The Rainbow burger is such a colourful and vibrant handmade burger which supports other local businesses. You can taste the love and artistry in it!”

And it’s not the only colourful dish the couple have created - they also have a bright pink latte, and delicious loaded croissants!

The couple have launched a kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a dream ‘Wild and Wild food truck’ to tour around the UK to schools and festivals to educate people about eating healthier.

April said: “We’ve launched a kickstarter campaign as we really would like a food truck to take into schools. We want to engage our community in the journey and be led by them. “Contributors can make a pledge and get something back from it, from coconut bowls to even your name on the truck.

“We’ll be serving brunch style plant based foods from there, and hope to take it to festivals too.

“We’ve even developed our very own Wild and Wild Plantegg, which looks and tastes just like the real thing. It’s really exciting to show people you can make anything a plant based alternative.”
