So many questions for man who stood for Labour last time
AS Staffordshire Moorlands Conservative Association, we are writing to Darren Price as Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour candidate at the last General Election to seek clarification on his response to the Equality and Human Rights Commission report into antisemitism in the Labour Party.
As an Association, we condemn racism and discrimination in any form in any political party in the UK, which is why we are writing to him.
Jeremy Corbyn was suspended from the Labour Party and had the whip removed last week in the wake of the findings published by EHRC’S report, which found Labour guilty of discrimination and harassment of Jewish people under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.
The report found that during that period, the Labour Party was responsible for three breaches of the Equality Act, including political interference in antisemitism complaints, the failure to provide adequate training to those handling antisemitism complaints, and the harassment of individuals.
Despite all of this, Mr Price still openly supported Jeremy Corbyn and stood as his candidate for the Staffordshire Moorlands last year. Considering that Mr Price and his colleagues within the local Labour
Party endorsed his manifesto and were campaigning to elect Jeremy Corbyn as Prime Minister, many local people will rightly worry about his failure to speak out and challenge the Labour leadership at the time.
Antisemitism is a disease that should never have been allowed to infect our politics. It must be stamped out now. To that end, we have a series of questions:
How does Mr Price account for his failure to stand up to Jeremy Corbyn on antisemitism within Labour during his time as a parliamentary candidate?
In light of Jeremy Corbyn’s statement responding to the EHRC report, does Mr Price believe that he should be expelled from the Labour Party? Does suspension mean it is still possible that Jeremy Corbyn will be a Labour candidate at the next election?
Does Mr Price agree with deputy leader Angela Rayner who said that Jeremy Corbyn is a ‘fully decent man’?
Will you apologise to the people of the Staffordshire Moorlands for supporting Jeremy Corbyn and wanting to put him into Downing Street?
Whilst we are pleased to see Jeremy Corbyn suspended from the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer should have acted swifter. Sir Keir is the man who served in Corbyn’s shadow cabinet advocating for him to be prime minister and run the country. He knew then what we know now, as he watched others resign from the Labour front bench and walk away. We hope that Mr Price is able to address our concerns and that antisemitism is permanently stamped out of our politics after this dark period.
