Gunn is ready to continue the good work in Potters goal

-

ANGUS Gunn is looking to keep up Adam Davies’s clean streak to help Stoke City through two tough games heading into the international break.

Gunn, pictured, has taken over the gloves from the injured Davies (knee), who had picked up seven clean sheets in 12 starts this season.

He helped secure a 1-0 home win over Rotherham in his full debut and is now preparing for away games at sixthplaced Watford tonight and league leaders Reading on Saturday.

That’s followed by a rare time to breathe with two weeks until the next league game against Huddersfield.

And it’s also a chance for Stoke, eighth but level on points with Watford, to keep punching their weight at the right end of the Championship.

“We know this league is tough and you’ve got to pick up points when you can,” he said. “These are two difficult games when you look on paper but obviously if you look at their results in the last few games there’s a chance there.

“When you go into the international break you want to end on a high.

“We’ve got two tough games, so if we can show the same desire as we did against Rotherham and keep clean sheets, that’s the important thing away from home and hopefully we can nick a few goals as well.”

He added: “The desire has always been there to keep climbing up this table and I’m more than confident we can get a bit of a run together and hopefully keep pushing up.” Gunn arrived on a seasonlong loan from Southampton on deadline day when Jack Butland left for Crystal

Palace. Given Davies’s form, the opening has come sooner than expected but he’s looking to seize the moment. He said: “Obviously Adam got an injury the other night so we’re all wishing him a speedy recovery.

“In football you’ve got to be ready for whenever you get the opportunity.”
