‘Sliding torwards moral bankrupcy’

-

AS A humble voter I am amazed to see our political system slide toward moral bankruptcy. Admittedly not as bad as Trump in America but getting closer.

On the one hand we have a government who condone Mr Cummings breaking his own lockdown rules and not paying council tax, Ms Patel being found by an enquiry to be guilty of bullying and this verdict being overturned by a Prime Minister who is not, in my opinion, exactly a paragon of truth and virtue, Mr Jenrick abusing his ministerial powers and getting away with it and a massive amount of contracts being given to friends of prominent public figures.

Admittedly jobs for the boys (and girls), has always happened but surely this is now reaching unacceptable levels. Surely it is time for some honesty and integrity.

Within the opposition, Mr Corbyn gets excluded from the party. The left wing of the party, who control the national executive committee, reinstate him as a member backed by a leading union. It doesn’t seem to matter that he failed the Jewish community miserably. Mr Starmer takes a moral stand and is now under pressure from his own party.

Have Ms Patel or Mr Corbyn actually apologised? They both say that they are sorry for any offence caused. That is not the same as saying sorry – full stop. Cummings

and Jenrick have not even tried to say sorry for their actions. Johnson just prevaricates.

It is clear to me that the voting public believed Cummings, Patel, Johnson, Gove and others that Brexit would lead to a land of milk and honey. Is that really going to be the case? Is it proving to be as easy as they said? No it isn’t but 52 per cent of those who voted believed them and so we rightly have to accept that we are leaving whichever way we voted.

As a country we are all going to be much worse off due to Covid and Brexit. The country will not be financially bankrupt but we will be in debt and will all have to pay to get back to some level of normality. I suspect that with the current government that some will pay more than others.

Personally I would rather put up with the consequences than put up with the moral vacuum being demonstrated by our elected politicians.

Cummings has belatedly gone. Others should follow.
