Police investigat­ing four burglaries in two hours

Break-ins part of a series of incidents over last week

DETECTIVES have launched an investigat­ion into four burglaries which all took place on the same day in the Staffordsh­ire Moorlands.

Properties in Draycott, Cheadle, and Checkley were targeted between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday, December 2.

During the burglaries, jewellery and clothes were taken after untidy searches were carried out. A silver saloon was seen in the area.

Now anyone with informatio­n over the incidents is being urged to come forward as Staffordsh­ire Police continues to investigat­e the four breakins.

Two properties on Stuart Avenue, in Draycott, were targeted, while burglaries also took place on Stokesay Drive, in Cheadle, and Badgers Hollow, Checkley.

During each incident, access was gained through the properties’ rear doors.

Detective Inspector Scott Mcgrath, of CID North, said: “These sorts of offences are rare in the Staffordsh­ire Moorlands, but we would urge residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“We are keen to hear from anyone living close to the addresses targeted who may have seen anything unusual that day to get in touch.”

An attempted burglary has taken place on Greatgate Road, Winnothdal­e, near Tean. It happened at approximat­ely 12.15am on Sunday, December 6. Offenders tried to gain access via the rear of the property, but were unsuccessf­ul.

On Tuesday, December 1, at around 8pm, residents on Dunwood Lane in Rudyard disturbed three offenders on their property. They were on the driveway with tools and drills.

The residents believe that they were after the catalytic converter from their vehicle. There is no descriptio­n of the offenders or the vehicle they were in, but it did travel in the direction of Longsdon.

A police spokesman said: “If possible park your vehicle in a garage or securely behind gates. If anyone has any CCTV in the area please contact 101 and quote incident number 666 of December 1.”

Following a suspicious incident in Black Bank Road, Cheddleton on Thursday, December 3 between midnight and 6.30am, farm owners in the area are urged to keep equipment, especially quad bikes and tractors, out of view and secured away, residents are also be advised to keep all valuables secured and keep all sheds and garages locked. Police officers have received reports of a white Citroen van, reg: SY56 MZX, acting suspicious­ly at two nurseries near Bagnall. The first incident was at Jacksons Nurseries on the morning of Saturday, December 5. It has also come to light that the same van was seen the evening before at Thursfield Nurseries acting suspicious­ly.

The driver looks to be in his 20s with a moustache. Should anyone have any informatio­n about this vehicle, call 101 quoting incident number 517 of December 5.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Officers stopped a silver Ford Mondeo in Cheadle Road, Forsbrook, at 8.50pm on Friday, December 4 and a 24-year-old man, from Derby, was arrested.
