Shoppers urged to boost village hall roof appeal

-

A STAFFORDSHIRE Moorlands village hall roof appeal has been chosen to benefit from the Co-op Local Community Fund.

Members of Cauldon Low Village Hall Committee are aiming to raise £30,000 to replace the roof, along with covering costs associated with environmental issues, including insulation work.

The hall was built in 1959 and last year celebrated its 60th anniversary.

Relying on revenue from hiring out fees and fundrasing, it is run entirely by volunteers and local residents and acts as a central hub to the village.

Karen Brindley, who helps with fundraising activities, said: “At a time when funds for charitable organisations are becoming more difficult to access, we’re incredibly grateful for this opportunity to make a real difference in our village.

“Many of the fundraising projects we had planned for this year had to be cancelled, so this will enable us to continue raising much needed funds.

“To help us raise vital funds, we’ll be relying on Co-op shoppers.

“Every time they buy Co-op ownbrand products they get a five per cent reward for themselves, and a further one per cent goes to local causes like ours.

“We really hope that people will visit the website and choose to support us. The fund lasts for 12 months.

“We are halfway towards our fundraising aim. We have received a government grant to help keep the hall going while we have no income from letting out the premises.

“However, we have to keep heating the building, and electric bills need to be paid.”

Co-op members can decide which local group they would like to back by visiting the website at coop.co.uk/ membership.
