Check if you qualify for £25 Cold Weather Payment help

-

AS THE wintry weather continues across the country, more households in the Moorlands are eligible to claim help with heating bills.

The Government has released another group of postcodes that will be given the cash bonus after temperatures dropped below freezing.

Cold Weather Payments help struggling households pay the extra bills the cold weather throws up by adding another £25 to their account.

The scheme begins on November 1 every year, and ends on March 31.

Those eligible will be given the payment when temperatures fall – or are forecast to fall – to zero degrees or below for seven or more consecutive days.

If you qualify, you will get a £25 payment for every sevenday spell of cold weather you experience.

Baroness Stedman-scott, at the Department for Work and Pensions, said: “Keeping warm throughout the winter is hugely important to staying healthy, which is why we pay to help heat homes when there’s a sustained cold snap.

“As well as Cold Weather Payments, we also run the Warm Home Discount Scheme and Winter Fuel Payments, so we have a number of schemes in place to help.”

If you think you may be entitled to the payment, the Government has an online checker that is updated every day.

The website allows you to enter your postcode, and will tell you how many £25 payments you are entitled to.

You may get cold weather payments if you’re getting Pension Credit; Income Support; Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance; Income-based Employment and Support Allowance; Universal Credit; or Support for Mortgage Interest.

Postcodes to have qualified for the Cold Weather Payment in the past two months include ST9 ( Werrington and Endon); ST10 ( Cheadle, Church Leigh, Tean, Alton); and ST13 (Leek).
