Bid to transform empty pub into a hot food takeaway
A PLAN has been submitted to convert a market town pub into a takeaway.
The application, put forward to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, is for the change of use of the Alton Castle pub, in Tape Street, Cheadle.
The application comes just a week after the Post & Times revealed that a planning application had been submitted for another town pub. This involved the conversion of the Talbot Inn, located in High Street, to office space.
In the latest application, a planning statement prepared by Pegasus Group, on behalf of the applicant Idnan Sabir, said: “The application site comprises the ground floor of a vacant two-storey commercial building.
“This application seeks full planning permission for the change of use of the existing unit from a public house to a
hot food takeaway together with the installation of extraction/ventilation equipment as well as shop front alterations.
“The existing shop fronts and window frames will be retained, repaired as necessary and repainted to match Traffic Grey.
“External alterations demonstrate respect for the existing building and demonstrate high quality design through the use of colour scheme and materials which are sympathetic to those of the local area. A separate application will be made to display any signage.
“The lawful use of the site as a pub means that technically the site could operate as a drinking establishment which could offer hot food for consumption on the premises as an ancillary part of the business without the need for planning permission.
“As such, the principle of a food use at this location is considered to be entirely acceptable in planning policy terms and would not cause any harm to the vitality and viability of the existing centres. There are a variety of alternative pubs within the locality.”
A decision on the application is expected within the next eight weeks.
