Stay close to nature with Wildlife Trust
STAFFORDSHIRE Wildlife Trust has come up with several ‘exciting and innovative’ resources to keep families better connected to nature during lockdown and during the February half-term. The Trust’s face-to-face People Engagement programme was paused due to the Covid-19 lockdown in January.
However, since the Covid-19 outbreak last March, when the events were first paused, the Trust has been working to keep families connected to nature though a wealth of resources to enjoy at home, in gardens or local green spaces.
Aimee Burrows, Wildchild Officer for the Trust, said: “We know the important role nature is playing in lifting our spirits, especially in the current climate, so we’ve come up with several ways families can get closer to nature at home or during their daily exercise locally.”
More than 1,200 people have downloaded the charity’s Wild Winter Pack – a free guide giving families ideas of how to enjoy nature during the winter period. More information and details of how to sign up can be found via www. staffs-wildlife.org.uk/wildwinterpack.
The pack is part of the Trust’s Get Wild at Home package, which can be found via www.staffs-wildlife.org.uk/ wildathome.
The Trust’s Wild Child Adventure Pack, which gives youngsters lots of ideas of how to enjoy the natural world, including how to go on a scavenger hunt or bare foot walks or bird watching.

The People Engagement Team have also been busy to bring videos and downloadable activities to its Family Facebook Page called Get Wild Tv(www.facebook.com/swtactivities) where families can take part in events like Yoga Squirrels, learn how to make nature themed goodies, bushcraft skill sessions and download scavenger hunts to family treks.

Families in Tamworth can download free virtual activities, including Toddler Treks and Wildfamilies Walks, as part of the Wild About Tamworth project thanks to funding from Tamworth Borough Council.
