Leek Tennis club looking forward to re-opening...

-

LEEK Tennis Club is well under way with preparations for the re-opening of the courts from March 29 in line with government and LTA guidance.

The club will see a full range of club activities restart and hopes that the new activities available will encourage new members, as well as existing members, to get active at the club.

As well as the usual club nights and court bookings, funding support from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council has allowed the club to offer several funded and part-funded activities which include senior activities, group coaching for juniors and coaching for ‘Rusty Rackets,’ aimed at beginners and adults returning to the sport.

In addition to the more traditional tennis activities, the club have also introduced Cardio Tennis which will take place on a Friday evening. Frank Murray (Club Chairman) said “Cardio Tennis is a fun fitness class set on the tennis courts. It is a great way to exercise and keep fit with no tennis experience required. All the equipment will be provided by the club, so people just have to book on and turn up!”.

Frank added “we hope that these activities attract people to the club. We are a very friendly bunch who welcome new members and like to see new faces. We have got some fantastic offers on at the moment and there really is something to suit everyone, regardless of their age or experience.”

The club has used downtime well, the with maintenance carried out on the courts and grounds. Additionally, the club has invested in a new ball machine which is available for all members to book out. The ball machine will be utilised at coaching sessions and junior sessions for use by members and non-members. (Pictured below).

Dave Bennett, (Club Treasurer), said “We are delighted to be able to open the courts up and we understand the positive impact that this will have not only on people’s physical health, but also mental health. We have spent time during lock down improving the club and looking for ways to make tennis accessible for everyone, all whilst ensuring that policies and procedures are in place to ensure a safe, healthy and enjoyable experience for players.”
