A NEW app is now available for one of Staffordshire Moorlands most popular beauty spots.

The new app covers the area surrounding Rudyard Lake and contains many different facts about the Moorlands idyllic location.

Ray Perry, chairman of the Rudyard Lake Trust said: “After some 18 months in development by both professionals and volunteers we are pleased to announce the free availability of The Rudyard Lake App.

“The app covers the many facets of Rudyard covering its history, wildlife, flora and fauna along with a interactive map using GPS technology, approach the trig point and up pops the detail of the location, it doesn’t matter if you are walking, in a boat, or even on the train the details spring in to life! There are several ‘extras’ from games, contacts and details of prices for lake users. The app will also be good for young people as it will educate visitors to the area. We hope that our many visitors and lake users will download and enjoy this new educational development.”

Plans are also being made for the launch of a new visitors boat to take people on trips around one of the Staffordshire Moorlands most idyllic areas.

Preparations are ongoing for the launch along with a street party involving a marquee at the dam, with additional attractions including a band and fairground.

The event is due to take place on Saturday, June 26.

The Rudyard Lake Trust along with The Rudyard Lake League of Friends have

been raising funds towards a new trip boat on Rudyard Lake owing to the demise of “Honey” a Captains Cutter Launch from 1942 which has been retired due to both dry and wet rot in her timbers.

Honey has provided endless enjoyment for hundreds of visitors since her purchase in 2005 and has been used not only by the visiting public but by schools, both adults and children with learning difficulties, private parties and for weddings.

Mr Perry said: “The new boat is being built in Norwich, but Covid-19 has delayed the completion and the launch of our new boat. Covid-19 has also stopped our fundraising events, but the public have been very supportive.

“We are now preparing for the launch and a street party to go ahead on June 26. Watch this space for further details.”
