Checkley thirds clinch win as Carrigan hits 61

-

CHECKLEY thirds were victorious in their home clash with Porthill Park fourths in NSSCL Division Seven.

Jason Carrigan’s 61 underpinned Checkley’s 1448 from a rain-reduced 33 overs.

Charlie Tatton, Charlie Chorlton and Ethan Plummer all took two wickets.

Porthill Park faced a revised target of 136 from 31 overs, but closed on 118-7.

Joseph Price (30) and Tatton (21no) impressed, although Andrew Eccles’ spell of 3-27 was the key factor.

Betley and Rode Park & Lawton seconds are setting the pace at the top of the league.

The duo saw off the challenges of Sandbach seconds and Audlem respectively on Saturday to make it three league wins for the season.

Betley recovered from 13-2 - after Will Brock’s double - to post 224-5 from their 40 overs at home against Sandbach.

Half-centuries from Luke Taylor and Lewis Clarke rebuilt the innings to lead them to a competitive total.

Taylor hit four fours and five sixes in his 68 not out, with Clarke finding the boundary on 11 occasions in his 61. Harvey Lowe added 33 to the cause.

The weather meant Sandbach were left chasing a revised target of 198 in 35 overs, but they were bowled out for 126.

Tilly Kesteven top-scored with 32 not out and there were decent contributions from James Clifton (27) and Jack Taylor (24).

However, two wickets apiece from Adam Williams, Callum Westwick and Lowe settled the destination of the points.

Rode Park & Lawton defeated Audlem by 47 runs. Opener Paul Chadwick batted throughout the

Rode Park & Lawton innings to make an unbeaten 72 as they amassed 151-3 from their 40 overs.

David Blakeman (24) and Neil Cheadle (21no) kept him company.

Kemal Toraman and Chris Shenton replied with 30 and 26 respectively, but there were no other decisive contributions and Audlem were skittled for 104.

That was largely thanks to Phil Cheadle’s 4-12 and Jack Harrison’s 3-14.

The matches between Audley thirds and Kidsgrove, Moddershall & Oulton sixths against Onneley seconds and Newcastle & Hartshill thirds’ home encounter against Wedgwood seconds were all cancelled.
