JORDAN GOES RETRO!

Take a look inside town’s giant new vintage and retro shop

FURNITURE which fell out of fashion decades ago is now making a comeback.

That’s according to Jordan Moss, who has opened JM and Co Furniture, in Leek, and is selling a wide range of ‘mid century,’ ‘retro’ and ‘vintage’ furniture from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

The business – based at Unit 10, Town Yard off Station Street – is now really taking off.

The 26-year-old, from Leek, said: “I started selling stuff in my garden and it went to one garage, then two garages, then three and now it is this unit.

“I started buying and selling stuff from this era and it just took off and is doing well.

“I have been here since September, but only opened the shop last week. I have been selling online and have been selling a lot down south, in London and the East Coast.

“Furniture from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s is proving popular. It is very popular in the big cities at the moment. It is different.”

The unit sells vintage and retro furniture including chairs, tables, cabinets, stools, tea sets, cutlery, glassware, lamps and ornaments.

Jordan used to work at Breeze House, in Leek, and used his redundancy money to set up his business.

He also does house clearances and house moves, but he buys most of his stock from other dealers across the country.

The dad-of-one added: “Instead of taking old furniture, glassware and ornaments to the tip, people should give us a call.

“We have an auction page on Facebook and we start everything on there at a pound and who bids the most gets the item.

“Items in the unit are priced from £3 to £300 or £400. There is something for everyone.”

Jordan’s business partner Mathew Hodgkinson, aged 26, from Leek, said: “It is non-stop at the moment.

“I don’t think I’ve had a day off in the last six months.

“We were both not happy in our jobs and it just went from there really.

“The style and engineering of older furniture is much better than the modern stuff. The Ikea furniture is just not built the same.”

Customer Maccauley Lines bought a whisky decanter from the unit.

The 25-year-old, from Leek, said: “I can’t believe what a wide range of stock they have.

“There is something for everyone and I will definitely be coming again.”

The unit is open Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 10.30pm to 4.30pm; from 9.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays, and from 11am to 3pm on Sundays.
