120 new home care jobs as firm sees surge in demand
Care assistant roles across the Moorlands start at £9 an hour
HOME care provider Cera has launched a recruitment drive for 120 frontline care workers in North Staffordshire.
The company – which has 70 offices in the UK – is looking for care assistants to help support people in their own homes after seeing demand for its services surge during the pandemic.
There are full-time, part-time and flexible hour roles available – in Leek, Cheadle and Caverswall, as well as Stoke, Blythe Bridge, Tunstall, Kidsgrove, Longton, Meir, Fenton and Bentilee – which start at an hourly rate of £9.
Now anyone who is unemployed, looking for work or simply wanting a career change is being urged to apply for the jobs – particularly those who have previously worked in retail, hospitality and cleaning roles.
Responsibilities including delivering personal care to service users including helping them to wash, dress, eat and maintaining their hygiene.
Dr Ben Maruthappu, co-founder and CEO of Cera, said: “The pandemic has accelerated a marked shift in social care, with more and more older people wanting to receive care in their own homes, creating greater demand and opportunity for care staff throughout the country.
“This trend will continue apace, even when the pandemic is finally behind us. By bringing new talent into the sector, particularly those from industries which have been impacted by the recession and have transferable skills, we can better support older people throughout our communities, protect vital NHS resources and get people back to work in a stable and hugely rewarding career.”
Alun Rogers, chairman of the Stokeon-trent and Staffordshire LEP, has welcomed the recruitment drive.
He said: “Cera is one of our region’s great success stories and it is brilliant to see them go from strength-tostrength with this new wave of jobs for local people.
“As a key sector for us at the LEP, and a national need to bring more high skilled people into the health and care sector, I am really pleased to see Cera leading the way.
“Stoke-on-trent is one of the best places in the country to establish and run a business and Cera clearly recognises this.
“Our most recent virtual jobs fair focused on the health and care sector and demonstrated the range of talented people in Stoke-on-trent and Staffordshire. I hope that many of these people will benefit from this new job creation.”
Successful candidates must be over 18 and willing to work various shifts including weekends, mornings and evenings. They will also need to have a driving licence and their own vehicle.
