Son breached driving ban by buying ice lollies for his sick father

-

BANNED driver Armani Foster was caught behind the wheel after going to the shop for his sick father.

The 21-year-old, who is the main carer for his dad, was disqualified from driving in February after accumulating 12 penalty points.

But just two months later, on April 28, police stopped him driving a grey Audi in Bridle Path, Werrington.

Prosecutor Francesca Perrera said: “Officers recognised the vehicle from some information they had that it was being driven by a disqualified driver. They spoke to Mr Foster, who was the only occupant of the car. Checks confirmed he was disqualified from driving.”

Foster pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He had no previous convictions.

Mark Bromley, mitigating, said Foster decided to drive to the shops to buy some items requested by his dad.

He said: “A few months ago Mr Foster moved his mother and father in with him.

“His father has a number of medical difficulties.

“His mother works so the caring responsibilities fall squarely on Mr Foster’s shoulders.

“On the day in question, his father was in some discomfort with his throat.

“He asked for some throat lozenges and ice lollies to help. Mr Foster decided to drive to the local shop to get them to his father as soon as possible.

“The police had some sympathy with him.

“They could see he had bought the items and allowed him to take them to his father before interviewing him.”
