Roberts and Highfield in record books with top stand
KIDSGROVE duo Danny Roberts and Chris Highfield set a new fifth-wicket record in their side’s NSSCL Division Seven win against Wedgwood. The pair put on an unbroken 220 to topple the 196 compiled by G Hall and C Reeves for Wedgwood against Oakamoor in 2006.
Roberts blazed nine fours and 10 sixes in his 63-ball 123 not out, with Highfield’s 103 not out containing 13 fours and four sixes.
Their efforts helped Grove to an imposing 291-4 from their 40 overs. Mark Jones picked up a couple of wickets for Wedgwood.
But the visitors’ batting fell flat after tea as Jimmy Jinks (3-10) and Ian Bailey (3-15) took three wickets apiece to dismiss Wedgwood for 74. Oliver Bennett top-scored with 19.
Sandbach seconds’ Laurence Bowyer claimed six wickets in their victory at Audlem. Seamer Bowyer’s haul of 6-39 was key to Audlem being limited to 157-9, in which Richardson Wilson made 33. Bowyer dad, Richard, made a welcome return to form in the Sandbach run chase, striking 23 - including one six.
And it was then left to Paul Jackson (69no) and Josh Cliffe (36) to see Sandbach to a four-wicket win with 13 balls remaining.
Audley thirds ran out sixwicket winners at home against Moddershall & Oulton sixths.
David Housley’s 65, featuring nine fours and one six, plus 46 from Mick Walley, enabled the Modd men to post 175-6. Huey Nield captured 3-35. David Womble snared a couple of wickets in reply, but Finley Beswick’s 53 and an unbeaten 44 from Thomas Boundy guided Audley to their target.
Newcastle & Hartshill thirds eased to victory at Rode Park & Lawton seconds. Experienced all-rounder Andy Keates top-scored with 76 not out as Castle made their way to 207-8.
Dan Forster and Sam
Hutchins took 3-28 and
3-48 respectively. But
Liam Williams’ 3-7 and Joe Thorne’s 3-4 scuppered Rode Park & Lawton’s hopes as they were skittled for 56. Porthill Park fourths won by five wickets on their visit to Onneley seconds.
Alex Lockett (4-14) and Charlie Tatton (3-7) joined forces to dismiss Onneley for 109. Ash Hall made 26. Joseph Price (30) and Craig Chorlton (26no) led Porthill Park to a five-wicket win, despite a miserly eight-over spell from Mohammad Razaq, which reaped 3-3.
