‘Folk music on overdrive’ for village

-

A MUSICAL collaboration born in the late-night jams of the 1990s is bringing live music to a Staffordshire Moorlands village.

Banjo and guitar duo Leon Hunt and Jason Titley bring their own brand of ‘folk music on overdrive’ to Latham Hall at Calton, Staffordshire, next week.

Back on tour as part of the Live and Local programme, bringing quality performances to rural areas, Leon and Jason began their music partnership in the early 90s, at late-night festival jams.

Those early sessions led to the formation of the ground-breaking and hugely popular progressive bluegrass band, Daily Planet.

And now, numerous projects and a couple of decades later, the duo are reunited and making the most of their musical chemistry.

Combining guitar, banjo, gourd banjo and percussion, original music from Leon Hunt and Jason Titley brings musical references from just about everywhere alongside compositions inspired by traditional music from the US and the British Isles.

More of a musical conversation than a rigid performance, the duo’s fingerpicking-good traditional US/ UK roots is a rare treat.

Fans of folk, blues and roots music are set to enjoy an entertaining afternoon of high-quality music suitable for adults of all ages and children older than seven.

Weather permitting, the event will take place outdoors and guests are invited to bring their own refreshments along with a rug or chairs.

The event will take place at Latham Hall on Saturday, July 24 at 2.30pm.

Tickets are £12, or £9 for under 18s, available at www.ticketsource. co.uk/calton-st-marys-memorialhall-commitee
