Multiple success for Leek Tennis club

IT WAS another fantastic week of matches played by the Leek Tennis Club teams.

After a two week break the Ladies County fixture was away to table topping Stone B. Caroline Green and Janet Hardern, Leek’s first pair, won their first match 6-2 and 6-1 which, despite the score, was a tough match.

In their second match, the Leek duo won both sets dropping just 2 games. Alison Randle and Anne Gould had a fantastic win over Stone’s first duo winning both sets 6-0 and 6-3. Their second match was a defeat for the pair from Leek. The overall result being an excellent win for Leek 3-1.

Leek Men’s A Team continued their unbeaten run on Wednesday night in the City and Suburban Division 2, remaining unbeaten after eight matches.

Leek Men’s A defeated second place Florence B, 3-1, to extend their lead at the top of the table. Alex Cimino and Rich Smith won both of their matches, with Drew Bennett and Toby Gayes winning one match and narrowly losing the other on a championsh­ip tie break.

Leek Men’s A also remain top of the Staffordsh­ire Tennis League Division 1, with a 3-1 victory over Draycott B in the scorching heat on Friday night. Drew Bennett and Dave Williamson won both of their matches, with Luke Thompson and Alex Cimino winning one and losing one on another championsh­ip tie break.

Leek Men’s B team were away to Florence C this week, coming away with a 2-2 draw. The 2-2 draw ensured that Leek Men’s B remain above Florence C with two games of the City and Suburban season remaining.

It was a week where all of the Men’s teams faced a team from Florence. Leek Men’s C team drew 2-2 with Florence E, ensuring they retain their 2nd place position in Division 4.
