Keatesy’s are life-savers with £600 AED donation

-

KEATESY’S Boxing Academy in Cruso Street has donated £600 to the Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund in thanks for its support in supplying an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Carly Ball, director of Keatesy’s Boxing Academy said: “From June, it will be mandatory for all sports clubs like ours to have an AED available for users of the gym. As a small club, operating on a tight budget, we managed to raise some of the money towards it, so decided to appeal to the wider community for help. Within hours of posting on social media, Steve Rutter of the Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund contacted us and offered to fully fund the defibrillator.

“Together we decided to locate it outside of the gym to also benefit the residents and nearby businesses. Working with Steve and defibrillator charity, Aeddonate, we were able to have the defibrillator installed in just a few weeks. It’s such a relief to me and Andy and as a thank-you for their support we have decided to ‘pay it forward’ and have donated the money to Kieran’s fund.”

Steve Rutter of the Kieran Rutter Legacy Fund said: “As soon as we heard of the need for an AED at Keatesy’s Boxing Academy we knew we had to help. As well as securing the future of the gym, it also means we can add another community public access defibrillator for the town. We were delighted that Andy and Carly wanted to donate to Kieran’s fund and the money will go towards a bleed kit and cabinet for the town centre.” The bleed kits contain PPE, dressings, chest seals and emergency tourniquets to control major bleeds, the same emergency equipment as an ambulance, with full instructions. Access to these potentially life-saving pieces of equipment will be controlled by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Steve said: “While we have been working on the deployment of community public access defibrillators, we became aware of this additional life saving equipment and felt it was also important to provide these for Leek.

“The bleed kits have been developed by the Daniel Baird Foundation, set up by Lynne Baird, MBE in 2017 following the tragic loss of her son who was fatally stabbed in Birmingham. Hopefully they will never be needed, but for the cost of a kit, a life could be saved, and a family spared lifelong grief.”
