It’s two for Joy at Alstonefield Memorial Hall
AN evening of folk music is coming to Alstonefield on April 23.
The evening will feature two members of the acclaimed all-female acoustic trio, The Magpies, but this time in their parallel projects.
Holly Brandon has been playing music with her brother, solo musician George Brandon, for as long as they can remember. On tour as Painted Sky, the duo has made a lasting impression with their progressive acoustic sound, balancing original material with their take on more traditional
English music. Their songs are characterised by honest vocals and timeless storytelling, underpinned by driving rhythms.
Whilst their exquisite instrumentals weave delicate finger- picking guitar and soaring fiddle with a dynamic energy. They seamlessly blend traditional and original tunes as well as those from further afield, such as the complex rhythms of Eastern
Europe, to the fiddle stomping tunes of Quebec, to create a distinct and borderless synthesis of contemporary folk. Bradford-born Bella Gaffney won the Celtic Connections Danny Kayle award in 2020. She writes folk inspired songs which she normally performs solo, along with her own original arrangements of traditional pieces. She has played at a great many music festivals over the last few years, including Beverley, Hebcelt, Butefest, Dent, Shrewsbury, Otley, Southwell and BAAFEST to name just a few. Like Holly, she also performs with The Magpies.
