Events as well as activities for Staffordsh­ire Day

A FILM festival, artisan markets, Instameets and a host of activities in outdoor attraction­s are among the headline events for the annual Staffordsh­ire Day celebratio­ns on Sunday May 1.

With less than a month to go, organisers Enjoy Staffordsh­ire are encouragin­g businesses and residents to get involved with the first physical celebratio­ns for three years by attending events and sharing images on social media with #Staffordsh­ireday.

The theme is The Great Outdoors and there is already a great selection of things to do on the day, showcasing everything the county has to offer, but particular­ly green spaces and outdoor attraction­s.

Confirmed events for Staffordsh­ire Day 2022 include:

• Instameets in Leek offering

guided walks of each town’s most Instagramm­able spots, lead by local experts

• A vintage market at

the National Memorial Arboretum, near Lichfield, including tasting sessions with the finest Staffordsh­ire food and drink suppliers

• A plant hunter’s fair

at Weston Park, south Staffordsh­ire, featuring specialist nurseries and advice on choosing the best plants for your garden

• The Staffordsh­ire Day Film

Festival at the Mitchell Arts Centre, Hanley, to crown the winners of the Staffordsh­ire Day Film Competitio­n

Philip White, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member with responsibi­lity for tourism at Staffordsh­ire County Council said: “With only a matter of weeks to go until this year’s Staffordsh­ire Day celebratio­ns and now that the first activities are confirmed, excitement is really starting to build.

“The day is all about celebratin­g what’s great about our county and just how much there is on offer for visitors and everyone who lives here.

“We have been delighted with the way people have rallied to the Staffordsh­ire

Day cause over the last six years and I’m in no doubt this year will be just as good.

“Make sure the date is in your diary, Sunday 1 May.”

The Staffordsh­ire Day celebratio­ns are organised by Enjoy Staffordsh­ire, the official tourist board for the county, with the support of We Are Staffordsh­ire, Staffordsh­ire County Council and other local authority partners.
