PARAMEDICS, a mountain rescue team and the air ambulance were called out to The Roaches to reports that a climber had fallen.

And the rescue operation at the popular Staffordshire Moorlands beauty spot saw 18 members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, alongside three of the service’s response vehicles called to the scene.

The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon where the climber had fallen and landed at the base of the climb.

Due to the terrain, the air ambulance landed in a field while the patient was carried on a stretcher over ‘tricky, rocky terrain.’

And mountain rescue team volunteers have thanked nearby climbers for assisting the casualty. The Buxton team say they were met by paramedics when they arrived at the incident.

A spokesperson said: “We were contacted to respond to a fallen climber at the Roaches. The climber had taken a fall from right route on the upper tier and landed at the base of the climb.

“Three response vehicles and 18 operational team members responded. On arrival at the casualty site, we were met by Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and West Midlands Ambulance Service, who had administered pain relief to make the climber more comfortable.

“The casualty was then carefully placed onto the team’s stretcher and transported over the tricky, rocky terrain to the awaiting air ambulance in the adjacent field.

“We would like to thank nearby climbers who assisted the casualty. We wish the casualty a full and speedy recovery.”

West Midlands Ambulance Service say they were called just before 3.30pm yesterday afternoon to reports that climber had fallen. A spokeswoman said: “We sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford.

“Crews worked with Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to safely extricate the woman.

“She was treated for injuries not believed to be serious and she was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital by air ambulance for further treatment.”
