Housing association in pledge to fix mouldy property
A HOUSING association has promised to complete repairs to a Leek property which has mould.
Last year, Karen Belfield of Hencroft reported that she had mould in her airing cupboard. She was told that the problem was an extractor fan in the bathroom which was not fixed through the roof properly, causing condensation in the house.
Karen, 53, who is disabled and waiting for a knee replacement, also fell on the uneven path leading to her property.
She said: “I have fallen on the path and have mould in my airing cupboard. I was told the mould was caused due to an extractor fan not properly fixed, but I can’t get anything done.
“I contacted Your Housing about the damp problem last July, but nothing has been done. I have been told twice that workers were coming to fix the problems, but both were cancelled.
“Both myself and my daughter are asthmatic, so this is not helping our health. I have also had a flood in the bathroom and the toilet is leaking.
“I am disabled and presently waiting for a knee replacement, so I have trouble with the uneven path leading to my property, which was reported last November.”
The Post & Times contacted Your Housing after visiting the property.
In a statement Conan Mckinley, director of asset and building safety said: “Ensuring that our customers live in safe and quality homes is our absolute priority, and we’re sorry for any delays and inconvenience this resident has experienced since the repair was requested.
“Last year we proactively contacted all residents to identify any damp and mould in our properties, which hadn’t been reported to us previously. The customer responded to this letter, and work was carried out in January to clean the mould and treat the stain with specialist paint.
“We are booked to return to the property on April 12 to repair the fans, which will help prevent any longterm damage from condensation. Repairs to the pathway flagging are also booked in for the same week.”
