Plan to send ambulances to help Ukrainian people
‘Every pound donated will go to the aid work’
A MOORLANDS aid support project has launched an appeal to help the people of Ukraine.
The Leek and Cheddleton aid support for Ukraine, based at Bank House in St Edward Street, Leek, is aiming to purchase two ambulances and fill them with medical equipment to send over to the war torn country.
A spokesman said: “We are a group of volunteers who have been collecting and transporting aid to Zamosc, on the Polish border with the Ukraine, near to the town of Lviv.
“We would like to purchase two used ambulances to equip the medical teams in the Ukraine, desperately trying to cope with the many sick and injured in and around Lviv.
“Every pound donated will go to the aid work, none of us take wages, the premises have been provided free of cost by Leek Town Council.
“Members of our team include retired police officers, nursing and care staff, prison officers and NHS administrators.
“Your help would be much appreciated!”
Leek Town councillor Roy Molson is leading the support campaign from Bank House.
He said: “We would be able to fill two or three of these ambulances with medical equipment, kindly donated by Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust, and deliver them to the Ukrainian medical support teams, where they can be used to help deal with the large numbers of people being injured in this awful war.
“The ambulances will be sign written to acknowledge the donations from the people of Leek and Cheddleton. One hundred people giving £100 will get us started. Be ‘one in a hundred.’”
If you want to support this project please contact Councillor Roy Molson or at Bank House on Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 1pm.
