Fire and Rescue want to see advice from children in film

-

STAFFORDSHIRE Fire and Rescue Service is calling on children to give their best safety advice through a short film.

The service has launched a competition for school children to become ‘home safety heroes’ and share advice with Staffordshire residents who are living alone.

Statistics show that people who live alone are nearly four times more likely to die or be seriously injured in a fire, and the campaign wants to encourage people to think about their fire safety to reduce accidents in the home.

Communications officer Emma Ray said: “We’re asking the children of Staffordshire to help us share our ‘living alone’ safety messages in a fun and creative way.

“The competition is open to groups, and we are looking for enthusiastic school classes, after school clubs, or groups like Brownies and Beavers to take part and use their imaginative ideas to help someone to change their behaviour towards fire prevention.

“Not only will the winning content be shared on an episode of the virtual Safe+sound education programme, but the lucky group will also win an exclusive tour of a fire station and have the chance to meet their local firefighters.

“We also hope that this competition will help to generate conversations about fire safety at home and the children will encourage people they know, especially those who may be vulnerable and living alone, to stay safe from fire. We are looking forward to receiving the entries and cannot wait to see the ideas.”
