COMEDY will be high on the agenda at Leek Arts Festival this year wih no fewer than nine out of 41 events offering fun and laughter.

Key dates to look out for include Scott Doonican on May 20 and Boothby Graffoe on June 3.

Scott - frontman of the hilarious parodies band The Bar Steward Sons of Val Doonican - will bring his one man show to The Foxlowe on Friday, May 20.

His zany act includes many of the songs made famous by the Bar Stewards such as a version of the Bee Gees classic ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ which details the experience of a man visiting his doctor for what might best be termed as ‘a very personal digital examination.’ In this version the refrain becomes ‘How Deep Is Your Glove.’.. and the rest we’ll leave to your imagination.

Scott will also be telling tall tales and fantastical stories guaranteed to leave the audience in stitches and begging for more.

Surrealist comedian Boothby Graffoe - as far as we’re aware, the only man named after an ancient village in Lincolnshire - will be on stage at The Foxlowe on Friday June 3.

A regular performer at the Edinburgh Fringe, Graffoe has won numerous comedy awards including the Adelaide Fringe Award for Excellence and the Time Out Comedy Award. He has also been nominated for a Perrier.

In addition to his off-the-wall stand-up routine, Graffoe will also be performing some of his famously odd-ball songs such as ‘Giraffes Don’t Play Harmonicas, So It Can’t Be A Giraffe’ and ‘Umbrella Head Boy.’

An accomplished songwriter and musician, Graffoe regularly performs with Canadian band ‘Barenaked Ladies’ who wrote and perform the theme tune for hit TV comedy ‘The Big Bang Theory.’

Tickets for both these gigs are available direct from Leek’s Foxlowe Arts Centre or online at www.leekarts festival.co.uk

Club on May 6, , and Bernard Wrigley - The Bolton Bullfrog - who will be appearing at Cuckoo’s Nest Folk Club on May 19.

Leek Arts Festival chairman Phil Edmeades said: ‘We know just how much Leek audiences appreciate a good laugh so we’ve built a healthy level of comedy into this year’s programme. All we need now is for people to get their tickets and then come along to the events and enjoy themselves.’
