County’s leading businesses bring the House down!
MPS and ministers hear Staffs success stories
A DELEGATION of Staffordshire businesses got the chance to showcase their success at the House of Commons last week.
Around 30 businesses were invited to the capital for the celebration ahead of Staffordshire Day which took place on Sunday.
The event gave companies the chance to raise their profile and shout about why Staffordshire is a great place to work, live and visit to ministers, Lords and MPS from all parties.
Organised by We Are Staffordshire – a partnership of business, education and public sector organisations promoting and marketing the county – the event aimed to showcase Staffordshire on a national and international scale, in a bid to attract residents, visitors, businesses and investment.
The day – which was supported by Staffordshire County Council, local MPS and other business leaders – also encompassed a roundtable debate with the country’s leading tourism experts and key Staffordshire attractions.
Staffordshire County Council leader Alan White said: “The House of Commons Staffordshire Day event gave us the opportunity to showcase the county’s business success stories to national leaders, giving us the reach and ability to influence those who ultimately make decisions on future funding and investment.
“It was great to be joined by a diverse group of businesses – both in terms of size and sector – which really demonstrates the breadth of the Staffordshire economy and its balance between rural and urban areas.”
Staffordshire Moorlands MP Karen Bradley, pictured, said: “This event will further establish our county as a place for enterprise and growth.
“We’re proud to have been able to promote traditional industries which use both established methods and new, low carbon technology along with cutting edge medical and tech-sector companies.”
Louisa Shaw, place brand manager at We Are Staffordshire, added: “We are proud and honoured to have organised the Staffordshire Day celebration at the House of Commons to put our county on the map.
“The event provided 30 businesses and Staffordshire ambassadors with a unique opportunity to raise the profile of their organisations and showcase their products and services not only to our Staffordshire MPS who put them forward, but to a nationwide network of MPS and Lords.
“With a fantastic turnout of more than 150 civil servants, it was a huge success.”
Businesses ranged from the county’s flagship manufacturers and attractions to small enterprises making their mark including Johnson Tiles, Drayton Manor Theme Park, Best of British Beer, the Trentham Estate as well as Staffordshire University and the Newcastle and Stafford Colleges Group.
