Memorabilia and cream teas as the bells rang out!..

-

THE village of Ipstones celebrated four days of activities to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event had been organised by the community with representatives from village organisations and was led by the parish council who had made £2,000 available for the villages of Ipstones and Foxt to enjoy the occasion.

The celebrations began on Thursday night with a short service at the community gardens. This was then followed by a procession through Church Lane to the beacon, which was lit on the high embankment.

On Friday there was a display of memorabilia on display in the Memorial Hall.

On Saturday a parade left High Street to the Memorial Hall where an afternoon of entertainment by live musical acts was performed.

On Sunday a civic service was held at St Leonard’s Church, and also a peel of bells rang out from the Church in the afternoon.

Cream teas were also made available on Saturday at the Methodist Church in the morning and at St Leonard’s Church in the afternoon, which proved very popular.

Months of preparation had gone into decorating St Leonard’s Church with red, white and blue.

Organiser Ruth Flint said: “People in the community have come together to knit, crochet and decorate the church. It has been amazing.

“One dress on display was worn by a village resident on Coronation Day. It had been made by her mother.

“We have been preparing for six months and people from the ages of five to 89 have been involved. It has shown that a small village in the Staffordshire Moorlands is thinking of the Queen.”
