Cheadle ‘buzzing’ over Jubilee party
Crowds flock to town to mark Queen’s big day
A TOWN’S community group has hailed its jubilee celebration as a huge success.
Crowds flocked to Cheadle High Street last Friday to enjoy the party atmosphere.
Team Cheadle is a voluntary community group aimed at making Cheadle a better place to live, work and visit. Its members represent residents, other community groups and businesses in the town.
The event, co-organised with Creative Cheadle, a group dedicated to showcasing the artistic skills and crafts of the people and businesses of Cheadle, has taken many months to plan and deliver.
“It was so important for the town that our event was a success after the months of restrictions created by the pandemic,” said chairman Ivan Wozniak.
“It was great to see whole families on the High Street, enjoying a jubilee picnic, partying and dancing in the streets. I thank each and every volunteer who helped make the event a success.
“Also special thanks to district councillors Mark Deaville and Mike Worthington who helped fund elements of the celebration.”
The event was supported by so many groups including the classic car club, scooter club and various music entertainers.
In keeping with the Queen’s request to support charitable organisations, a number of charitable organisations promoted their good work and funds raised.
“The event shows what a great community spirit we have in Cheadle and how by working together we can achieve great things” added Ivan.
Creative Cheadle member Dee Beardmore said: “Well what can I say? Cheadle knows how to party!
“Our vision was to follow Her Majesty’s wishes to give our lovely town a celebratory street party to remember.
“We are still buzzing from the whole experience. I want to pay tribute to all our volunteers and to the local people who created the fantastic setting for the event and the yarn bombing of the town.”
Not content to rest their laurels, Team Cheadle has already started to plan for the Christmas High Street event later in the year.

BEACON
THE Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Proclamation along with a service and the lighting of the beacon took place in Cheadle last Thursday.
At 2pm, Paul Lucas, left, assumed the responsibility of Town Crier for Cheadle and read the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Proclamation, announcing the national and international call to celebrate the 70-year reign of Her Majesty The Queen. Town clerk, Dave Mullington, said: “The enthusiastic gathering in Greyhound Walk welcomed the tradition, and the ceremony was very well received.”
This was followed in the evening by a church service and beacon lighting event.
Mr Mullington added: “The evening saw the Cheadle ‘Churches Together’ open the weekend’s celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee across the town.
“Matthew Parker, Bishop of Stafford, joined church leaders from across the town to host an incredibly uplifting and patriotic service.
“The service was followed by refreshments and accompanied music supplied by Rob Ellis and Paul Lucas, musical director and secretary of the Cheadle Community Band.
“At 9.45pm, a Beacon was lit on the Church Tower, reflecting similar events across the country and the Commonwealth.
“This was a joyous start to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, and a huge thank you to all those who were involved in the event.”
