Best friends Bruno and Ava are in need of a new home

Margaret Russell, secretary of CHEADLE ANIMAL WELFARE SOCIETY, updates us and highlights some pets who are looking for a new home...

LUCKY to find a home recently was Willow an all black cat. She came into care in October and we had no way of telling if she had been spayed, so we waited.

There were no signs of her coming into season until she had been in her new home for a few days. Then we got all the tell tale signs, so off she went to Lime Trees Veterinary Hospital for her operation. Thankfully she is now sorted and has settled into her new home really well. Also lucky to find a new home was Leo, a black and white cat.

He has found his perfect home and is absolutely adored by his new owner. Other good news is that a home has been offered to Paddy, the black and white cat, whose owner had sadly passed away. We are so grateful as Paddy is really not happy in the cattery.

Although no one has yet offered a home to the two German

Shepherds Ava and Bruno we have been asked to continue to try.

Ava is 10 years old and Bruno is 9 years old. They are the best of friends so need to be rehomed together. Sadly their owner is no longer able to care for them. For more details take a look on our website cheadleanimalwelfare. org.uk or ring 07731 616 025.

We would urge anyone who has an unneutered cat to get it neutered as soon as possible. Currently there are many cats in rescues, including Cheadle Animal Welfare, who not so long ago were kittens enjoying having fun and now they find themselves homeless. The last thing we want is yet more unwanted kittens to be born. It seems to me that people want kittens, but as soon as they become adult cats they no longer want them so they just get rid of them and don’t care what happens to them. Please be aware that if you have a cat you MUST get it microchipped by 10th June 2024 or you could face a fine of £500.

All cats must be microchipped by 20 weeks of age. It makes sense, as so many cats are found as strays without having a chip and then there is no way of tracking down their owners. It is also important to keep the details on the microchip up to date ie if you change your phone number or move house, make sure that you contact the microchip company to let them know .

Cats currently in our care who are waiting patiently for that special someone to come along to offer them homes include Donald, Ernie, Daphne, and Diana. Donald is an all black Tom who has been with us for 14 months. He’s nothing special just an ordinary cat who needs a home with someone who will adore him. Ernie came to us in January when his previous owner moved and couldn’t take him along. He’s only about 12 months old and needs a home where there is safe outdoor space so that he can run around safely and maybe climb a few trees. His photo is not of the best as he’s a bit camera shy! Daphne was abandoned by her owner in September 2023. She is a really nice tabby and white cat who will enjoy a quiet home with someone who will be happy to let her cuddle up on the sofa. Diana is a brown tabby. She was born in November 2015 and is hoping to find a retirement home where she can have lots of good food, a cosy bed and an owner who will pander to her every need.

You will find details about all of the cats and dogs in our care on our website. Take a look www. cheadleanimalwelfare.org.uk
