Fire crews save pair from blaze at their home
TWO people were taken to hospital after being rescued from an upstairs room of their burning home in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Firefighters used a ladder to save the man and woman from the house in Primrose Close, Narborough.
Neighbours who heard a smoke alarm going off in the house alerted fire crews at 12.48am.
The casualties were treated at the scene by ambulance crews before being taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for a precautionary check- up.
The blaze was caused by an electrical fault in the dishwasher, which was destroyed, along with a washing machine. There was heavy smoke damage to the ground floor and moderate smoke damage to the first floor, said firefighters.
Crews from Wigston, Western and Southern station made the rescue and tackled the blaze.
A Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “The initial call received stated there was a house fire. It was unsure if people were inside.
“A further call stated that shouts for help could be heard from the property.
“Crews confirmed they rescued two people from the first floor.
“It is believed the fire was in a ground floor kitchen.
“Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house.
“The two people rescued by the fire service were handed over to the care of the ambulance service.
“Smoke alarms at the property had activated, which alerted a neighbour who rang the fire service.
“Please make sure you have at least two working smoke alarms in your property and test them at least once a month.
