Plans to reopen last few tips

-

THE final remaining tips in the county that have been closed since mid-March are due to reopen, starting this month.

Leicestershire County Council is finalising plans for the rest of its recycling and household waste sites. Six more sites will reopen from Thursday, July 30, starting with Bottesford.

Slots will be able to be booked online from Friday, July 17.

Sites at Kibworth and Coalville will reopen on Monday, August 3 and Tuesday, August 4 respectively, with online bookings for both sites available from Friday, July 24.

Lutterworth’s waste site will reopen from Friday, August 17, the Loughborough site from Saturday, August 15 and Somerby from Sunday, August 16. Online bookings for all three sites will be made available from Friday, July 31.

Anyone wishing to use the tip needs to book an appointment in advance to ensure social distancing.

Councillor Trevor Pendleton, county council cabinet member for waste disposal, said: “We’d like to thank residents for their understanding and patience.

“We appreciate that, in some situations, people have had to travel further than they normally would to dispose of their waste. These further reopenings will help this situation.

“We are continuing to monitor government guidance closely to ensure we can offer a safe and resilient service going forward.”

Locations at Barwell, Lount, Market Harborough, Melton, Mountsorrel, Oadby and Whetstone reopened in mid-May.

These sites will continue to be open for the extended period of seven days a week, with the Shepshed site continuing to open for five days a week.
